The Midden-Limburg region forms the heart of the Limburg province. It shares borders with Germany and Belgium. With a phenomenal location with regard to the major (logistics) hotspots like Rotterdam, Antwerp, Amsterdam and the German Ruhr region. Consequently, trade and industry in the region are internationally oriented. Important supply routes over land (with most significant traffic routes A2 and A73), water, rail, but also aviation are a matter of course. The region is well organised with higher education and training centres, both practical training courses (Gilde Opleidingen) and universities of applied sciences (Zuyd and Fontys with courses in technology and logistics). Also located in Limburg are the internationally oriented universities such as Maastricht University, with campuses in Maastricht and Venlo.
